NEW AUDI MODELS 2015

TT/TT roadster/TTS (concept shown above)/TTS roadster: The TT continues into 2015 unchanged, but a third generation of Audi’s iconic coupe arrives next year as a 2016 model. Its longer wheelbase and predicted lower curb weight combine with more power from its 2.0-liter turbo four. Output is up to 230 horses and 310 in the forthcoming TTS. The TTS will also get standard magnetorheological dampers. These cars will be the first recipients of Audi’s new driver display that merges infotainment and instrumentation to essentially install a smartphone in front of the pilot’s face. The way the software colonizes the hardware here is both haunting and yet perfectly suited to our lit-rectangle era.

Q3: No surprises here, as this compact-crossover competitor to the Mercedes-Benz GLA, which goes on sale in the fall, will resemble a shrunken Q5 and draw on the corporate parts bin for underpinnings and power. A 2.0-liter turbo four and six-speed automatic are sure bets, as are front-drive and Quattro options. Pricing will start at less than $35,000

A3/S3: On sale now, this front-drive sedan is powered by a 170-hp, 1.8-liter   turbo four mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. A 220-hp 2.0-liter with   Quattro is optional. The performance-oriented S3 will be joined by a convertible and a 150-hp/236-lb-ft TDI sedan to fill out the 2015 lineup. A five-door A3 “sportback” will go on sale next summer as a late 2015 model. It will initially be available as a plug-in hybrid, with a diesel to follow. Still missing, and presumed dead: manual transmissions and the three-door hatch.

A8/S8: The face-lifted flagship gets a new schnoz and tuchis. Cylinder deactivation comes to the 6.3-liter W-12, while electric power steering helps bring fuel-economy improvements to the rest of the gas-engine line. The A8 4.0T now hits 30 mpg in the EPA highway test, even after a 15-hp bump for the twin-turbo V-8 brings it up to 430 horses. See S8 full pricing, specs, and review
